Platycodon grandiflorus ‘Fuji Pink’

Fuji Pink Balloon Flower

Growing wild in China, Korea, Japan and eastern Russia the ballon flower is closely related to Campanula. Called a balloon flower because its flower buds swell like a balloon before opening to large, heavily textured blooms. ‘Fuji Pink’, besides making a charming border plant, was bred for the commercial cut flower market in Japan. The soft pink blooms, several to a stem are carried on 60-70cm tall, strong stems. Happy in any reasonably fertile soil it will need some extra water during dry periods. Platycodon are herbaceous perennials and so are dormant in winter. A spacing of 30cm between plants will suit.
