Wallflower ‘Fire King’ is an old favourite flower, in a colour, as Sarah Raven puts it, “a lovely sort of browny, toffee-apple orange”. ‘Fire King’ is traditionally planted to flower with tulips in the UK and we have carried on this tradition in the Lambley gardens this year where we have the wallflower underplanted with purple, crimson and deep pink tulips. We have fulfilled all the needs we have for the Lambley garden, and have a couple of hundred well-grown plants to spare. The fragrance of this cultivar is especially strong. If grown in hard conditions this wallflower can be perennial, although we treat it as a biennial.
