We imported Thymus ciliatus from Olivier Filippi’s wonderful nursery in the south of France. It has done well here at Lambley growing in hot sunny spots. It makes low ground covering mat of greyish hairy leaves, 5cm tall by 50cm or more across. These mats are covered in spring by heads of soft pink flowers set in purple calyces. The foliage will often turn red during winter. Thymus ciliata does much better in our harsh summers than most other decorative thymes whish are mostly English selections. Best grown in full sun.
