Pyracantha ‘Weston Compact’

Weston’s Firethorn

I have been wondering for years what this plant was called. I first saw it growing on a quarry face in the Women’s Peace Garden at Flemington, an inner-city suburb of Melbourne. Although never watered it had flourished for many years and made an evergreen shrub 70cm tall by 100cm across. We grow it in the Lambley garden close to and on the north side of pencil pines where during spring it makes a fine display of small white flowers followed during autumn and early winter by an abundance of clusters of glossy, bright red berries. During winter these berries are food for many of the birds which live in the garden.
