Salvia ‘Will Scarlet’
This is the first release of Salvia ‘Will Scarlet’ a chance seedling which cropped up in the Lambley garden near a plant of Salvia ‘Çrimson Belle’. It has all the virtues not least of which is its large bright scarlet flowers and its height. Flowering begins in spring and goes well into autumn. The resident New Holland Honeyeaters and the native blue banded bees are frequent visitors. Will Scarlet was one of Robin Hood’s Merry Men. They roamed the Nottinghamshire forests and countryside, including the village of Lambley. They visited the Holy Trinity Church in Lambley, or so the church rector told me.
Height and width 90cm. Best grown in full sun where it is quite drought hardy when once established.
