Rubus ‘Benenden’
I first saw this stunning shrub in the late Alan Bloom’s Bressingham Gardens in the UK over 40 years ago. From memory, it was about 3.5 metres tall by 2 metres or so across and smothered with its pure white flowers, like exquisite single roses, cascading down arching branches. I didn’t think any more about it until a friend gave me a plant many years later. We planted it near the house in a garden that gets an occasional summer watering, where it has now reached over 2 metres in height. Best in sun or very light shade.
