Growing wild in China, Korea, Japan and eastern Russia the ballon flower is closely related to Campanula. Called a balloon flower because its flower buds swell like a balloon before opening to large, heavily textured blooms. ‘Hakone White’ has ‘hose-in-hose’ flowers, that is they have the appearance of a flower sitting inside another flower. Exquisitely beautiful and bred for commercial cut flower use, it is as at home in the flower border as in a cut flower bed. Happy in any reasonably fertile soil it will need some extra water during dry periods. Platycodon are herbaceous perennials and so are dormant in winter. 40-50 cm tall by 30cm wide.
