Erica x darleyensis ‘Darley Dale’

Winter Heath

As an adolescent David Glenn used to hike in the Derbyshire dales and moors where the village of Darley Dale is set. Erica x darleyensis was raised in this village at the end of the 19th century. It still stars in gardens because of the beauty of its pink flowers, its long winter/spring flowering period and its ease of cultivation. It makes a robust ground cover some 45cm tall by 90cm wide. It is an Award of Garden Merit plant, the highest accolade of the Royal Horticultural Society, which is only given to plants of the highest quality.
