Elegant and distinctive, Delphinium ‘Blue Lace’ produces graceful spires of soft light blue, double flowers with an exceptional depth of petal. Each floret can carry up to 30 petals, creating beautifully full blooms that are either fully double or very close to it. The bees are equally enchanting, ranging from tones that blend with the petals to delicate white striping over the blue. Growing to around 1.5–1.8 metres, Blue Lace brings a refined elegance and wonderful vertical presence to the perennial border. Its tall flower spikes create a beautiful accent amongst summer perennials and make exquisite cut flowers, where the intricate form and gentle colouring can be fully appreciated.
Beginning its display in late spring and continuing well into autumn, Blue Lace offers months of graceful colour in the garden. With prompt removal of spent flower spikes, it rewards the gardener with further blooms. At Lambley, we cut our plants back after the first flush in early January and are rewarded within weeks with a fresh succession of elegant flower spikes.
Grow in full sun or light afternoon shade in fertile, well-drained soil with regular summer irrigation. Given good garden conditions, this outstanding perennial will provide years of spectacular displays.
