More than twenty years of careful breeding culminated in the remarkable Delphinium ‘Cobalt Dreams’. Producing magnificent spires of rich mid to deep cobalt-blue flowers, each centred with a contrasting white bee, it is celebrated for its extraordinary consistency of colour, form and strength. Remarkably consistent from plant to plant, it creates an exceptionally harmonious display in both the garden and the cutting patch.
We grew these outstanding perennial delphiniums in our own garden years ago, where their rich blue flower spikes captivated visitors throughout the flowering season. Reaching 1.5–1.8 metres, they provide a bold vertical accent in the perennial border and produce superb cut flowers with beautifully even colouring from stem to stem.
Flowering from November through to the end of April, they reward good cultivation with an exceptionally long season of colour. Remove spent flower spikes as they fade to encourage repeat flowering. At Lambley, we cut our plants back to the ground after the first magnificent flush in early January and, within just a few weeks, they produce another spectacular display of vibrant blue blooms.
Grow in full sun or light afternoon shade in fertile, well-drained soil with regular summer irrigation. Given good garden conditions, this outstanding perennial will provide years of spectacular displays.
