This extraordinarily beautiful clematis gained an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1995. This award is only given to outstanding plants. Raised in the Crimea Botanic Gardens in 1961 it has stood the test of time. Alionushka is a Russian girls name. The nodding pink, rather fleshy tepals have a darker bar and reflexed tips and are 5-8cm across. In bloom from early summer until early autumn. As C. ‘Alionushka’ doesn’t have tendrils it is best grown through medium sized shrubs which provide support. It is especially beautiful growing through shrub roses. In Europe it is often planted amongst perennials.
