Clematis ‘Alionushka’
This extraordinarily beautiful clematis was raised at the Crimea Botanic Gardens in 1961 and has stood the test of time, receiving the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in 1995. ‘Alionushka’, produces nodding pink flowers with rather fleshy tepals, darker bars and reflexed tips. The flowers are 5–8cm across and appear from early summer through to early autumn.
Unlike climbing clematis, ‘Alionushka’ has no tendrils and is best grown through medium-sized shrubs, where it uses the branches for support. It is particularly lovely growing through shrub roses, and in Europe is also commonly planted amongst perennials.
