A cool season broccoli for harvesting though winter into early spring from a late summer early autumn sowing. Prophet has proven to be the most reliable winter broccoli year after year with nice green colour and strong tolerance to purpling. Maintains good head quality throughout the season.
When to sow: late summer/early autumn.
Where to sow: For early planting use trays in a warm indoor position or in drills in a prepared bed for later sowings (see below)
Depth to sow: 5mm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 35 to 40cm Between rows 60cm
Directions: Broccoli can be sown 3 different ways. 1) In seed trays or individual 5cm pots 2) Sow seed 5mm deep drill in outside seed beds and then transplant six weeks later into final position 3) Direct sow 3 seeds into final position and thin to one seedling
