Yellow Grape

Tomato, Yellow Grape ‘Zesty’ F1 (Solanum lycopersicum)

Sweet flavour low acidity

Much loved by children this is a good looking, very sweet, low acid variety. It is very productive with good disease resistance although it has no resistance to tomato spotted wilt virus we have not seen any disease in our plants at all. Indeterminate variety that needs staking. Zesty is the earliest tomato to ripen here at Lambley and also the most delicious. Whilst not having as strong a disease package as the other tomato varieties in our range it has never failed us yet. It will produce a very large crop. One plant will keep a family supplied with a crop of the most delicious sweet low acid fruit from early summer until mid autumn.

When to sow: Early spring
Where to sow: 5 or 7.5cm pots
Depth to sow: 5mm
Aspect:  Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil:  Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add   lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants: 60 to 90cm; Between rows: 90 to 100cm

Directions:  Plant the seed individually in 5 or 7.5cm pots on bottom heat 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. When the first true leaves appear take the seedlings off bottom heat but keep them protected. Don’t over water. When they have made sturdy plants, before they start flowering and when the danger of frost is over, plant them outside. After planting, a plastic tree guard will protect from wind and creates a warm micro-climate. Tie to a three wire or a pig wire trellis about 100cm high or allow to grow on the ground.
