Tomato, Gourmet 'Lindsay' F1 (Solanum lycopersicum)
Lindsay is a strong growing variety which performs well even in very difficult conditions. It has an excellent disease resistance package which helps in the production of large crops of gourmet tomatoes from early summer through to winter. Fully ripe Lindsay tomatoes have a good flavour.
When to sow: Early spring
Where to sow: 5 or 7.5cm pots
Depth to sow: 5mm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants: 60 to 90cm; Between rows: 90 to 100cm
Directions: Plant the seed individually in 5 or 7.5cm pots on bottom heat 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. When the first true leaves appear take the seedlings off bottom heat but keep them protected. Don’t over water. When they have made sturdy plants, before they start flowering and when the danger of frost is over, plant them outside. After planting, a plastic tree guard will protect from wind and creates a warm micro-climate. Tie to a three wire or a pig wire trellis about 100cm high or allow to grow on the ground.
