Sweetpea ‘Captain of the Blues’ (Lathyrus odoratus)
This beautiful bicolour is a reselected form of a variety raised in 1909 by Morse. Bright blue wings and purple blue standard. 200cm.

When to sow: The end of February until August
Where to sow: Direct sow in the garden, or in small pots
Depth to sow: 8 to 12mm
Aspect: Full sun, or as sunny a spot as possible
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil
Spacing: 15-20cm between plants
Directions: If seed is planted at monthly intervals, flowers can be had from late winter until Christmas. A single planting will last two or three months as long as spent flowers are removed. Traditionally sweet peas are planted on St. Patrick’s Day, the 17th of March, but any time from the end of February until August is fine.
