This remarkable rhubarb relative will test the skills of any gardener but is worth the effort. This rhubarb relative grows wild in the Sichuan mountains of western China. Its leaves are smaller than rhubarbs, but the bract covered flower stem is quite extraordinary. The large creamy bracts hang down over the flowers to protect them from the heavy and persistent rains of its mountain fastness. It is best grown in light shade in rich moist soil. Height 100cm width 60cm or a little more.
