We haven’t grown the Plume Poppy at Lambley for many a year but as G.S. Thomas’s description affirms it is well worth growing. “The Plume poppy is a most imposing perennial with running rootstock, quickly colonizing the ground, and throwing up leafy stems. The leaves are rounded and large, beautifully lobed, grey-green above and grey-white beneath, making a fitting complement to the branching plume of numerous small bluff- or flesh-tinted fluffy flowers. Give it plenty of room in any drained soil, in sun. It is grand in a clump of its own among shrubs and will cool down and yet blend with the hottest colour schemes.” It will eventually grow 200cm tall and 140cm wide.
