Penstemon fruticosus ssp. scouleri

We haven’t grown this species at Lambley before now, but David saw it growing in the alpine section of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh forty odd years ago where it had made a small shrub 25-30cm tall by as much across covered with deep mauve-purple flowers. Native to dry montane areas of north-west USA and south-west Canada, it will grow best in a very well drained sunny spot. It flowers during late spring and early summer.
