‘Anne Russell’ is a neater smaller growing shrub than the well-known V. x burkwoodii. It was raised in 1951 from a back cross between V. x burwoodill and V. carlesii. ‘Anne Russell’ has all the virtues of its larger relative with exquisite pink budded flowers in 8cm wide heads which have a fragrance redolent of Daphne odora. It flowers for many weeks during late winter and early spring. It will rarely grow above 160cm tall and wide. Happy in sun or light shade with some summer irrigation.
