Salvia ‘Val Lawrence’

One of the best and tidiest of the shrubby Mediterranean Salvias. We selected it from a batch of a hundred or so seedlings from a cross we made between a low growing form of Salvia fruticosa and S. ‘Greek Skies’. We named it after Val Lawrence, a doyenne of the Creswick Garden Club who has done so much to encourage gardening and gardeners in the Central Highlands of Victoria. This Salvia makes a small, dense shrub clothed in grey sage-like leaves. During spring 30cm spikes of mauve flowers are displayed well above the leaves. Drought tolerant once established, it is best grown in a well-drained, sunny spot and will grow 60cm tall by as much across.
