Salvia ‘Cardinal Purple’

Salvia ‘Cardinal Purple’ is a plant that was found on an Australian median strip in 2015 and was named for the colour of a cardinal’s cloak. It has gone on to be one of our most popular shrubby sages. It is a microphylla type, rather than a greggii type – it has microphylla leaves, not greggii leaves, but its exact parentage remains unknown. Rich cardinal-purple flowers are carried, from spring until winter and beyond in mild climates, on a shrubby plant some 60cm tall by 90cm across. ‘Cardinal Purple’ is happy in any sunny spot and doesn’t require much extra summer watering.
