Magnolia grandiflora ‘Exmouth’
This noble evergreen tree was planted in parks and gardens throughout Australia during the 19th and early part of the 20th century. Growing up to 20 metres tall eventually, although this will take a lifetime, it has made a handsome 10 metres in the 15 years since it was planted at Lambley. ‘Exmouth’ is clothed in the typically large dark green glossy leaves but untypically for the genus, it will start flowering after only 5-6 years. Huge, intensely lemon scented waxy flowers are produced during spring and summer with a fragrance rich enough to make one swoon.
