Quick growing cabbage relative in which the swollen stems are eaten. One of the sweetest and freshest flavoured varieties and is quick from seed to harvest on an upright plant. Best sown from mid-summer until mid-autumn for an autumn-winter crop.
When to sow: August, September and October and from February to April.
Where to sow: Sow in a drill in a prepared garden bed or in trays or pots.
Depth to sow: 1/2cm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: 5-6cm apart in rows 40cm apart.
Directions: Kohlrabi doesn’t enjoy the torrid heat of mid-summer so is best planted to avoid these times.
