Indigofera heterantha

Himalayan Indigo

This beautiful shrub native to north western Tibet which has been given the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for its outstanding traits. We’ve grown it at Lambley since we moved here thirty five years ago. As it flowers on new wood we cut it back to 90cm each winter. During spring it produces strongly vertical twiggy stems dressed in lacy pinnate leaves. Sprays of rich dark pink pea flowers are displayed in the leaf axils from early summer on into the autumn. 180cm x 150cm. Sun or light shade. Drought tolerant and very tough.
