One of the showiest plants in the dry garden during its mid-spring flowering season when 80cm tall, sword-like stems carry large, intensely purple-red flowers. It is planted in several drifts mostly with Salvia nemorosa cultivars. It is also grown it in the cottage garden where it is regularly watered during summer. The gladiolus grows during winter and is summer dormant. It grows happily in full sun as well as light shade and tolerates drought. 80cm x 30cm.
