Growing wild in dry rocky places in Greece, Türkiye and Syria this is perhaps the most beautiful of all the brooms and safe to plant too as it is well behaved and not likely to become weedy. Making about 80-90cm tall and 100cm wide its wire like arching stems produce tiny leaves in spring. The warm yellow flower completely smothers the shrub during late spring and early summer. One of the joy,s G. lydia was given an Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society. It wants a sunny spot in the garden and is drought tolerant when once established.
