This superb New Zealand bred Echium makes a shrub some 2 metres wide and up to 2 metres tall from which 2 metres tall columns of deep cobalt blue flowers are produced in spring. One of the most spectacular varieties of a spectacular genus this giant is both frost hardy and drought tolerant. Long lived it has thrived for decades in our garden. A couple of decades ago we were employed by The Melbourne City Council to renovate old garden beds at the back of the boat sheds on the Yarra. We planted a steep bank of this Echium. When in flower it took our breath away and the breath many of the public. Any garden big enough should plant this.
