A beautiful new introduction, Delphinium ‘Sapphire Jewels’ produces elegant spires of rich royal blue flowers, each adorned with a distinctive white, double-striped bee. With a refined flower form, excellent consistency and a generous number of stems produced per plant, this selection is particularly well suited to cut flower production while remaining a superb garden performer.
Growing to around 1.2–1.5 metres, Sapphire Jewels has a graceful, medium-height habit that brings wonderful vertical interest to the perennial border. Its reliable stems and consistent appearance make it an excellent choice for creating impressive displays both in the garden and in the vase.
Beginning its display in late spring and continuing well into autumn, Sapphire Jewels offers months of graceful colour in the garden. With prompt removal of spent flower spikes, it rewards the gardener with further blooms. At Lambley, we cut our plants back after the first flush in early January and are rewarded within weeks with a fresh succession of elegant flower spikes.
Grow in full sun or light afternoon shade in fertile, well-drained soil with regular summer irrigation. Given good garden conditions, this outstanding perennial will provide years of spectacular displays.
