The Warminster Broom has been delighting gardeners for a century and a half since it was raised by Wheeler’s Nursery in Warminster in 1867. Strong and dense in growth and tolerant of drought it is so floriferous that its branches are completely hidden by its flowers during spring. It looks especially beautiful in the Lambley garden blooming next to the deep blue of Ceanothus ‘Blue Sapphire’. One of the showiest of all spring flowering shrubs, the Warminster Broom was given the coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit as long ago as 1933. It first cropped up in an English garden in 1867. In our Mediterranean garden it has made a neat, rounded shrub some 150cm tall by as much across. It’s a tough, drought tolerant, sun loving plant.
