Cotoneaster horizontalis
This native of mountainous areas of Nepal, China and Taiwan is both tough and handsome, in a stiff, angular sort of way. The small glossy leaves are a foil for the masses of bright red berries which are produced in autumn and are still showy in winter. Growing 90cm tall by a bit more across it is drought tolerant when established. It is especially handsome when trained against a wall. Happy in sun or light shade. RHS Award of Garden Merit.
