Clematis ‘Hagley Hybrid’

The shell-pink flowers have contrasting chocolate anthers. As the flowers have a tendency to fade during hot weather ‘Hagley hybrid’ is best planted where it gets some shade from the afternoon sun. ‘Hagley Hybrid’ flowers on the current year’s growth so should be cut down to 15-30cm during winter. Making a moderately vigorous vine, ‘Hagley Hybrid’ can be grown in a pot as well as on a fence, an arbour or trellis and allowed to clamber through trees and climbing roses.

This clematis was raised by Percy Picton in 1945. At that time Picton was head gardener at Hagley Hall in Worcestershire in the West Midlands although later on he became a well-known and much-admired broadcaster.
