Clematis ‘Gipsy Queen’

Clematis ‘Gipsy Queen’ has been grown and admired since its introduction in 1877, earning its place as one of the enduring members of the Jackmanii group. The 12–13.5cm blooms open a deep red and quickly develop into deep violet. The flowers have a beautiful velvety texture when first open and continue to change colour as they mature.

A vigorous deciduous climber, ‘Gipsy Queen’ grows to around 3–4m and flowers from spring through to autumn, with the main flush produced on new season’s growth. It is well suited to growing through shrubs or over trellises, arches and fences, and makes a particularly good companion for climbing roses. A particularly good choice where a strong-growing clematis is needed to cover a large structure or bring colour into the garden.
