Caryopteris x clandonensis ‘Heavenly Blue’
This summer/autumn flowering shrub has thrived in a tough spot in the Lambley garden for many years. It is quite drought tolerant but some extra watering during dry periods is recommended. Bottle brush like dark blue flowers are produced on new seasons wood so it’s best to cut back Caryopteris about halfway during winter. ‘Heavenly Blue’ prefers a sunny well drained spot in the garden where it will grow 90cm tall by 80cm wide. One of the parents of this plant, Caryopteris incana, has a widespread distribution in north east Asia, the other C. mongholica grows wild in Mongolia and nearby areas of China.
