This species can be found growing wild in central and eastern Europe including the Carpathian Mountains from which it gets its specific name. Its sky-gazing, cup-shaped, deep violet-blue flowers, the size of a 50-cent coin, are produced over clumps of fresh green leaves during summer. Happy in light shade or a moist well drained spot in the sun, it is beautiful when grown in a pot, but it is equally happy at the front of the border or growing in a rock garden. It does need a little extra watering during dry periods. Dead heading will extend this plant’s flowering period. Height 20-25cm width 30cm.
