A good new winter red savoy cabbage which resists splitting for a good length of time. Plant seed from mid-summer until mid-autumn for harvesting from early to late winter. This cabbage has a good sweet flavour which improves with cold weather. Plants seedlings 30 to 45 cm apart in rows 45cm apart.
When to sow: December, January and early February.
Where to sow: Seed tray, pots or in a garden seed bed
Depth to sow: 1/2cm Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 40cm Between rows 60cm
Directions: If grown under cover when the first two true leaves appear harden the seedlings off by taking them outside on a cool cloudy day. Keep watered. When the seedlings are 6-8cm tall plant in the garden. First remove the seed leaves (cotyledons) and plant up to the first set of true leaves. Water in. If seed is planted in outside seed beds transplant when seedlings are 6-8cm tall.
