Brunnera macrophylla ‘Alexanders Great’
‘Alexander’s Great’ is the most majestic of all the silver leaved Brunnera. The large silver heart shaped up to 25cm across are beautifully veined green. Its leaves are as effective as a Hosta but the plant is more accommodating in the garden its sprays of forget-me-not like sky-blue flowers are displayed well above the foliage on thin branching stems. In flower for many months during spring it will brighten any lightly to d quite densely shaded parts of the garden. A woodland plant from Eastern Europe and nearby western Asia it is quite drought tolerant when once established but is much the better for some extra watering during dry periods. The foliage mound will grow 50cm tall by 70cm across with the flowering stems rising above.
