In Greek mythology, The Fields of Asphodel. Also known as the Asphodel Meadows, is a section of the underworld where ordinary souls, who lived neither good nor evil lives, are sent after death.
One of the joys of our dry garden during its long spring flowering season when its 120cm tall branching spikes carrying hundreds of white stars puts on a grand display. This native of southern Europe grows wild in pine woods, olive groves and heavily grazed land from Spain to Greece. Very drought tolerant and thriving with no extra irrigation at all it is generally dormant during the two hottest months of summer. Happy in any sunny or lightly shaded spot.
