Adoxaceae
Viburnum x burkwoodii ‘Anne Russell’
'Anne Russell' is a neater and smaller growing shrub than the well-known V. x burkwoodii. It was raised in 1951 from a back cross between V. x burwoodill and V. carlesii. ‘Anne Russell’ has all the virtues of its larger relative with exquisite pink budded flowers in 8cm wide heads that have a fragrance redolent of Daphne odora. It flowers during late winter and early spring on a shrub which rarely grows above 160cm tall and wide. Happy in sun or light shade with some summer irrigation.
