Phlomis taurica is a native of Crimea and the Caucasus where it grows on dry rocky hillsides. If grown in full sun it will make a round, dark green leafy plant some 50cm tall by a little more across. During summer, deep mauve pink and rich purple hooded flowers are carried in three or four well spaced whorls. Phlomis taurica tolerates the hot weather well and is drought tolerant. As this plant is herbaceous winter growing bulbs can be planted around and beneath it. A rarely offered plant.
