Melon, Watermelon ‘Conguita’ F1 (Citrullus lanatus)
A terrific new black skinned variety weighing a convenient 2-3 kg when ripe. The firm flesh is sweet, crisp and deep red with a much more intense flavour than the seedless varieties. A productive small seeded variety that will ripen in cooler as well as warmer areas of Australia.
Grow them in two ways:
1. Plant one seed per pot in October in a warm indoor spot. Plant out after the last frost in a spot protected from wind. A plastic tree guard may be used. Harvest in February.
2. Plant two seeds directly into the garden in November. Thin to one plant when the first leaves appear. Harvest these in March.
