Dicentra spectabilis

Dicentra spectabilis

Syn. Lamprocapnos spectabilis
Bleeding Heart, Lyre Flower, Lady’s Locket, Dutchman’s Breeches

Bleeding Heart, Lyre Flower, Lady’s Locket, Dutchman’s Breeches are popular names for the dangling flowers of this much-loved perennial. Turn the flowers upside down and they become Lady in the Bath. Graceful, elegant, exquisite, incomparable, peerless are all words that come to mind when looking at or rather gazing dreamily at its blooms. The pink lockets holding white flowers are held, up to a dozen or more, on arching slender stems over beautiful soft green foliage. Native to Siberia, northern China, Korea and Japan Dicentra spectabilis is best grown in a lightly shaded, moisture retentive spot.
