Broccoli ‘Spigariello Liscia’ (Brassica oleracea)
Southern Italian Leaf Broccoli
The leaves are picked for the table not the small flower heads which should be removed as they appear. To many people this has a better flavour than kale. Cook it as you would kale or spinach. It can be used as a baby leaf too.
When to sow: Sow from January until early April for harvesting during autumn and winter.
Where to sow: Direct into prepared bed
Depth to sow: 1cm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 20cm
Between rows 40cm
Directions: Seed is best planted straight into the garden 3 seeds per station, 1cm deep and 20cm apart with 40cm between rows. Thin to one seedling.
