Poaceae
Anemanthele lessoniana
Syn. Stipa arundinacea
Pheasant’s Tail Grass, New Zealand Wind Grass
My son Ric Glenn has been much taken by a massed planting of this in London and I must say I share his enthusiasm. This most graceful ornamental grass was given the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for very good reasons. Thin arching evergreen leaves turn copper, gold and orange during autumn and winter. Arching rosy flower sprays are produced during summer turn bronze during autumn. Happy in any sunny well drained spot and drought tolerant when once established. Over watering should be very much avoided. 50 to 60cm.
