Phlomis tuberosa
Most Phlomis we grow are shrubby but this one is a herbaceous perennial. It makes a rosette of large, dark green puckered basal leaves. During spring and early summer several stiffly vertical stems carry whorls of mauve-pink flowers. These flower heads age wonderfully well and are telling right into winter. Piet Oudolf, the distinguished Dutch landscape designer, uses this plant a lot in his gardens. 100cm tall by 60cm across.
