Achillea ‘Coronation Gold’

Syn. Coronation Gold Yarrow
Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit Winner

The best of the yellow flowered yarrows first sold during the year of the Queen’s coronation. It makes well behaved evergreen mounds of feathery grey leaves. During late spring and summer 120cm tall, leafy stems support tiers of whitish, cotton-wool like buds which open in a long succession to flat plates of clear light yellow flower heads. A classic plant given the coveted Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society. Sun. Tough and drought tolerant requiring only the minimum of watering if it becomes parched. 120cm x 90cm.

Agapanthus ‘Perpetual Peace’

The only Agapanthus we know which flowers throughout late spring, summer and autumn. A dwarf evergreen, white flowered variety with particularly handsome flower heads. This plant rarely produces viable seed. A new introduction beautifully used by Di Johnson in her fabulous garden on the Mornington Peninsula. 40cm x 60cm. sun or light shade.

Buddleja ‘BuzzTM Midnight’

Midnight Butterfly Bush

The dark violet-purple almost black flowers make a terrific display from November until late March if spent flowers are removed. ‘Buzz Midnight’ is a small growing shrub suited to small as well as large gardens. Drought tolerant when once established it will make a compact shrub 150cm tall by 120cm across. We cut it back by half during winter.

Centaurea bella

Caucasian Cornflower

A Caucasian endemic, with beautiful pinnate greyish leaves, which is widely used as an evergreen groundcover in the dry Mediterranean gardens of the French Riviera. Once established, it is happy in any soil that isn’t bog-like. A definite weed suppressor. Centaurea bella’s foliage grows about 10cm tall and the branching flower stems, carrying the beautifully shaped amethyst-pink flowers, are 30cm tall. Allow 30cm to 40 cm width.

Euphorbia ‘Blue Peaks’

Blue Peaks Spurge

This variety may well have the bluest foliage of all the ornamental Euphorbias. At Lambley it has made a round shrub, some 50cm by 50cm, clothed in beautiful powder blue leaves and crowned during spring and summer with large chartreuse flower heads. Happy in any sunny well drained position E. ‘Blue Peaks’ is both frost hardy and drought tolerant.

Euphorbia x martinii ‘Rudolph’

Martin's Spurge

During winter it develops a rich red growing point from which in spring lime green flowers with a red centre are produced. Drought resistant when once established. A beautiful selection by renowned plantsman David Tristram. ‘Rudolph’ is an evergreen small shrub to 60cm by 60cm with blue-green leaves.

Karmina Cranesbill

This low growing Cranesbill is smothered in deep pink flowers during spring and early summer. ‘Karmina’ has attractive fragrant, neat glossy green foliage. Whilst semi-evergreen here at Lambley in warmer districts it will be evergreen. Height 20cm width 35cm. Best planted in sun or light shade and given some summer irrigation as this plant is not drought tolerant.

Hydrangea paniculata ‘Candlelight’ PBR

‘Candlelight’ is an outstanding new variety of hardy, sun tolerant Hydrangeas Large conical creamy white flowers are displayed on sturdy red stems. The flowers age to shades of pink. ‘Candlelight’ has handsome green foliage which turns to attractive autumnal tones. In hot districts it would be as well to plant it in a spot that is protected from the hottest sun and fiercest wind. Height 150cm width 130cm.

Symphytum ‘Hidcote Blue’

Ornamental Blue Comfrey

A fine blue flowered form of ornamental comfrey. Tough, shade loving and tolerant of dryness when once established this will make a good groundcover for difficult shaded areas. During spring it carries 35cm tall stems carrying dangling bells of blue flowers. The evergreen foliage makes a dense weed proof groundcover. 35cm by 40cm.
