NEW ZEALAND WIND GRASS

Anemanthele lessoniana Syn. Stipa arundinacea is a superb ornamental grass increasingly being adopted by the landscape trade for its visual interest in a massed planting. We're just as happy to include one or two in a perennial border for its textural effects and colours.

My son Ric Glenn has been much taken by a massed planting of this in London and I must say I share his enthusiasm. This most graceful ornamental grass was given the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for very good reasons. Thin arching evergreen leaves turn copper, gold and orange during autumn and winter. Arching rosy flower sprays are produced during summer turn bronze during autumn.

Happy in any sunny well drained spot and drought tolerant when once established. Over watering should be very much avoided. 50 to 60cm. Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit Winner
