Allium cernuum ‘Hidcote’
This easily grown North American evergreen is one of the loveliest of the smaller Alliums. Holding no terrors it is easily grown in a pot or the garden where during its summer season each bulb will produce a 30-40cm tall stem “…which terminates in a downward nodding umbel” of bell shaped rose-pink flowers. As it is native to open grasslands and deciduous woodlands from quite low elevations to mountainous habitats it adapts to garden culture readily. ‘Hidcote’, a larger flowered form, was Given an Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society. It comes true from seed.
