During late spring and early summer and again in late summer and autumn Clematis ‘Purpurea Plena Elegans’ is smothered with masses of small, dusky rose-plum, fully double flowers 5cm in width with a paler centre. First flowering from November until early January it will rebloom late during February, March and April if cut back hard after the first flush of bloom is spent. Cut back again to 20-30cm during winter. An RHS Award of Garden Merit plant.
