Sweetpea ‘High Scent’ (Lathyrus odoratus)

Possibly the most fragrant sweet pea, ‘High Scent’ has creamy white flowers with a lavender blush around the edges. It is a vigorous climber up to 200cm tall, and a recipient of the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society. Fragrance = 5

When to sow: The end of February until August.
Where to sow: Direct sow in the garden, or in small pots.
Depth to sow: 8 to 12mm
Aspect:  Full sun, or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil:  Prepared, well drained, fertilized soil.
Spacing:  15-20cm between plants

Directions:  If seed is planted at monthly intervals, flowers can be had from late winter until Christmas. A single planting will last two or three months as long as spent flowers are removed. Traditionally, in the southern hemisphere, sweet peas are planted on St. Patrick’s Day, the 17th of March, but any time from the end of February until August is fine. 200cm.
